RELIGION PLANTS SEEDS OF HATE
Little Amy and little Jasmine made an irresistible
duo. They played, they sang, they giggled - they were the best of friends.
Earlier they had a tea party in the back yard, with Barbie and Winnie-the-Pooh
as their guests. Sally smiled as she walked downstairs to the kitchen.
She loved her little girl, and she was so happy Amy had found such a
great playmate. The next tune that filled the bedroom began. "Jesus
loves me, yes I know, For the Bible tells me so …" But instead
of the harmonious duet, this time Amy was singing solo. Amy said to Jasmine, "Come on, Jas. Sing with
me." "No," replied Jasmine. "I don't like
that song." "Why not," little Amy asked her friend. "Cause my mommy told me it's not true. We sing
to Allah, not to Jesus." "But Jesus is God. Jesus love you," insisted
a surprised Amy. "No he doesn't," said Jasmine. "Uh huh," said Amy, growing irritated with
her little friend. "It says so in the Bible." "So. I read the Koran. It says Allah is God. Not
Jesus!" retorted Jasmine. "Shut up, you. I'm going to tell. Jesus is too
God," yelled Amy. "No he's not. He's not. Allah is God," said
Jasmine. "You shouldn't say that, Jas. That's a lie,"
said Amy. "Is not. I know it's true," said Jasmine
with a stern, stubborn glare. "Well, you're not my friend any more, Jasmine.
You are going to hell and burn with the devil!" Amy said matter-of-factly
to her former best friend. When Sally came back to check on the girls later, she found them in opposite corners of the room. The beautiful dollhouse lay on its side, overturned and broken, with crumpled walls and shattered furniture. Tiny teacups and tiny plates and tiny spoons lay strewn about the room, a result of their newfound animosity. The two little girls who had been best friends just an hour ago now appeared to be the worst of enemies. |
